Meghan Markle Returns Home to California from the Invictus Games — Why She Headed Back Early
Prince Harry is staying in Canada, where the Invictus Games run through Feb. 16
Meghan Markle is back in California after spending time with Prince Harry at the 2025 Invictus Games in Canada.
Keeping with a pre-planned arrangement, Meghan headed home early to be with the couple’s two children: Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.
Meanwhile, Harry will stay in Vancouver and Whistler for the remainder of the Invictus Games, which run through Feb. 16. The Duke of Sussex created the adaptive sporting competition for sick, injured and wounded service personnel and veterans in 2014 and serves as the patron of the Invictus Games Foundation.
Meghan’s attendance at the Invictus Games underscored that while she has solo projects on the horizon, including the Netflix show With Love, Meghan, she and Harry remain united in both their personal and professional lives, with her family as her top priority.
An onlooker in Vancouver told PEOPLE at the start of the event: “I think it’s great that she’s coming. There is a lot of speculation about them and their marriage, but this reinforces one thing to me, at least — there is no separation. It looks like they present a united front when it comes to matters they both care about.”

Meghan will be returning to California with some souvenirs for her children: custom jerseys from Team Nigeria.
“We did one for him [Harry] and one for M and for the kids,” Nigerian team manager Derrick Cobbinah told PEOPLE. “They said they would be excited to have them. She was very, very excited.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were together to kick off the Invictus Games. Prince Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, made their first appearance at a welcome reception on Feb. 7. There, the Duchess of Sussex introduced her husband by telling a personal story that included their kids.
“With families…the big rush in the morning and getting ready for school and packing the lunchboxes and making breakfast and my husband is in all of that with all of us,” Meghan said. “And then he’ll be on his phone, and Archie will say, ‘Papa, why are you on your phone?’ and he’s like, ‘Because it’s Invictus, I’m getting ready for Invictus.’”
“It means so much to him,” Meghan shared. “You are his family, just as we are his family. And I hope you recognize how much of his heart he has poured into every single beat that has gotten all of you to this week that is going to be spectacular.”
She then introduced her husband by calling him “the father of our very sweet, excited children who are cheering you on from California, Prince Harry, founder of the Invictus Games, the Duke of Sussex.”

When it comes to bringing Prince Archie and Princess Lili to the Invictus Games, Prince Harry told PEOPLE in 2022, “We can’t wait!” — and revealed he had already introduced the competition to his son.
“I showed Archie a video of wheelchair basketball and rugby from the Invictus Games in Sydney, and he absolutely loved it,” he said. “I showed him how some were missing legs and explained that some had invisible injuries too. Not because he asked, but because I wanted to tell him. Kids understand so much, and to see it through his eyes was amazing because it’s so unfiltered and honest.”
During this year’s Invictus Games, the Duke of Sussex spoke with CTV about how talking about the Invictus Games with Prince Archie took a surprise turn and led to a conversation about Princess Diana. While talking about some of the injuries sustained by the service personnel and veterans competing at the games, Harry found himself talking about his late mother’s work to clear landmines and raise awareness of the issue.
“Interestingly, it gave me a chance to talk about my mum, his grandma, which I didn’t even really consider,” Prince Harry said. “That became the outcome of the story for him. He wanted to see videos and photographs of his Grandma Diana out doing her thing for landmines all those years ago.”
“It produced a very interesting conversation between me and him, different to what I thought it would be,” he added.
While Prince Harry and Meghan won’t be together for Valentine’s Day, they celebrated the holiday early with a double date with Michael Bublé and his wife, Luisana Lopilato. The two couples dined at the Italian restaurant Il Caminetto in Whistler on Feb. 10, Town & Country reported, where Meghan wore diamond earrings that were a Valentine’s Day gift from Harry last year.
