The seven-time world champion came into Monza off the back of a crash at Zandvoort. The Dutch GP was a disaster for Ferrari as they suffered a double retirement, with Charles Leclerc colliding with Kimi Antonelli.

The Maranello outfit were keen to bounce back emphatically at Monza as they race in front of the Tifosi. Hamilton issued a rallying cry to Ferrari fans, telling them the team needed their support at the Italian Grand Prix.

But the 40-year-old had his work cut out after Hamilton was hit with a five-place grid penalty for a yellow flag infringement. He could only manage fifth in qualifying at Monza, which demoted him to P10 for the race.

Hamilton apologised to Ferrari in an unheard radio message after qualifying, as he stated he had a lack of pace. But the Brit would redeem himself with a strong showing to finish sixth.

Lewis Hamilton thanked the Tifosi in Italian after his ‘incredible’ Monza comeback

Ferrari teammate Leclerc came home fourth after battling with Oscar Piastri for P3 in the early stages. The Tifosi did not get to see one of their drivers on the podium, but they could certainly be proud of Hamilton’s performance.

The 40-year-old made some brilliant moves to work his way back up the order, with his eight points helping Ferrari to extend their advantage over Mercedes in the constructors’ championship.

Coming over the radio at the end of the race, Riccardo Adami praised Hamilton for his efforts: “That’s P6, solid job out there. Good comeback.”

Hamilton then delivered a message that the Tifosi will adore as he thanked the fans in Italian: “Yeah, great job this weekend guys, solid result. Sorry I couldn’t get further up but I gave it everything. Grazie a tutti, the Tifosi, grazie.”

Adami replied: “Yeah, thank you, and enjoy the Tifosi,” before Hamilton applauded Ferrari for their work with the pit stops: “An incredible effort in the pit-stop, guys!”

Adami then said: “Yeah, they were awesome,” before Hamilton ended the exchange: “I really appreciate your hard work.”

Has Lewis Hamilton regained some confidence at Ferrari after the Italian Grand Prix?

Monza was a positive weekend for the Brit, having displayed strong pace in the SF-25. Hamilton topped the timesheets in FP1, but his penalty in the race limited the progress he could make.

It has been a difficult season for the 40-year-old, having struggled to adapt to the operations in Maranello in the first half of 2025. He is still waiting for his maiden podium for Ferrari, with Leclerc having grabbed five.

Flavio Briatore doubts Hamilton expected so many problems at Ferrari when he joined from Mercedes. But both parties are slowly starting to find solutions, and the Brit seems much more confident in the car.

Hamilton reminded Karun Chandhok of Nigel Mansell at Monza as he seemed ‘energised’ in front of Ferrari’s home crowd. He relished the pressure of the Tifosi, and he will want to carry that momentum on for the final eight races.
